In a June 2023 conversation with Interview Magazine, speaking to actress Cameron Diaz, 52, Lawrence discussed how the birth of her son has shaped her perspective on the paparazzi.
“I try my best,” she responded when Diaz inquired about protecting her son from the media. “When I was pregnant, the paparazzi made me so anxious. I thought, ‘How am I going to keep it together when they start snapping photos of my child?’
“But after he arrived, I realized that my demeanor affects him more than anything else,” Lawrence continued. “If he senses that I’m stressed before we even leave the house, or if I’m upset while we’re out, that affects him too.”
“It’s actually had the reverse effect; I’ve become more zen and relaxed about being photographed because I have no other choice,” she added.
“You have to just accept it, breathe deeply, and move on. I don’t want my son to inherit my anxiety and anger,” she concluded.
During the discussion, Lawrence also praised her husband, calling him “the best father in the world.”
“So when I’m working, I don’t feel the usual day-to-day parental guilt,” she added.
The Hunger Games actress also highlighted the challenges of balancing motherhood with her career in Hollywood, noting that she has become more selective about her projects since having Cy in 2022.
“You can’t spread yourself too thin once you have a baby,” Lawrence noted. “It really helps to make decisions about projects: ‘Yes. No. Yes. No. Yes. No. Is this project worth missing time with my child?’”
In a 2022 discussion with Vogue, Lawrence spoke about how motherhood has transformed her life. “The joy that Cy brings is just— incredible,” Lawrence remarked. “I tell him all the time, I love you so much it feels impossible.”
