The Ongoing Legal Drama Between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni Intensifies

The courtroom saga featuring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni continues to unravel, promising more twists and turns than the historic 1773 incident in Boston.

Last Thursday, U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman decided that the defamation lawsuit filed by Baldoni’s production company, Wayfarer, against his former publicist, Stephanie Jones, has sufficient grounds to proceed.

This ruling is a setback for Jones, who wasn’t sued directly by Baldoni but rather his company. This development also brings several key figures under scrutiny for potential discovery. These include Jones herself, along with Lively’s publicist, Leslie Sloane, and any communications that might have occurred with Lively and her spouse, Ryan Reynolds.

Although this marks a win for Baldoni, his lawyer, Bryan Freedman, provided a notably unembellished comment on the matter. “The court has dismissed Stephanie Jones’ motion to have the case thrown out and will examine Wayfarer’s allegations, including those of defamation, based on all the evidence presented,” Freedman told Page Six Hollywood.

A Tangled Web of Allegations and Lawsuits

The dispute traces back to the 2025 legal claim by Wayfarer, which accused Jones of deliberately leaking text messages. These leaks triggered a chain of lawsuits all linked to events around the production and release of the 2024 blockbuster “It Ends With Us.” About a month before this drama themed on domestic violence hit the theaters, publicist Jennifer Abel left Jones’ company, Jonesworks, to start her own firm. Simultaneously, Baldoni informed Jones of his intention to sever ties with her agency. It was then, allegedly, that Jones took possession of Abel’s phone and downloaded text conversations between Abel and crisis publicist Melissa Nathan.

The Baldoni camp suspects that Jones disparaged him to Sloane, Lively, and Reynolds. These text messages eventually made their way into a revealing New York Times article, which depicted Baldoni as an alleged sexual harasser who supposedly launched a defamation campaign against Lively after she voiced complaints about him.

Judge Liman, who is the sibling of renowned film director Doug Liman, determined that Wayfarer presented enough preliminary evidence to move forward with the lawsuit.

This is just one of multiple lawsuits slated for trial in New York come May. Lively has filed lawsuits against Baldoni, Abel, and Nathan. Likewise, Jones is pursuing legal action against the same trio.

Jones opted not to comment when contacted.

A Wayfarer spokesperson expressed satisfaction with the judicial decision to Page Six Hollywood. “The court has also allowed the advancement of claims that Stephanie Jones of Jonesworks acted with malice, including propagating damaging stories to third parties and sabotaging her client at a pivotal time. These accusations are serious and substantial enough that the court has agreed they warrant further investigation… We are confident that a thorough review of the facts will uncover the fabrication of these narratives and their motivations,” they stated.
