“At twelve, my son and teammate,” he captioned. “Here’s to many more victories in life. Love, Papa.”
The Instagram post included photos of McConaughey, aged 55, and his son at a University of Texas football game. The pictures showed them from behind, enjoying the game side by side. Livingston sported an orange T-shirt and shorts, with a sweatshirt casually tied around his waist. McConaughey himself was dressed in a button-up shirt paired with jeans and topped off with a cowboy hat.
Despite his fame, the Golden Globe winner is known for keeping his family life private, especially when it comes to his children with his wife, Camila Alves.
Family Matters
McConaughey and Alves, who married in June 2012, have three children together: Levi, 16, Vida, 14, and the birthday boy, Livingston. In a rare move, the family stepped out together in April for a function supporting McConaughey’s nonprofit organization. At the event, Vida was charming in a pink dress, and her brothers were sharply dressed in suits.
Following this, in June, Vida made another public appearance with her mother, who is 41, at a high-profile Hermès Birkin fashion show. The pair were dressed in matching red outfits, showcasing their style.
The couple has been cautious about their children’s exposure to social media, electing to keep them off until they reach 15 years old. They believe introducing children to social media is akin to “sending your kid off with a bunch of strangers into the world,” a sentiment McConaughey shared during a “Today” show visit in September 2023.
He shared some parenting insights during that appearance, particularly about his son Levi, who recently ventured into acting with a role in “Way of the Warrior Kid”. Before Levi started using Instagram, McConaughey gave him some advice: “Live your life, Levi. If you find something worth sharing, share it. But don’t wake up every day trying to create content just for sharing,” he advised.
When Levi turned 16 in July, McConaughey offered more guidance. He expressed hopes that he and Camila had done their best in raising him, emphasizing the importance of self-awareness and decision-making. “You won’t always have us as a safety net in the exciting, unpredictable world out there. Be attentive to your surroundings, stay true to yourself, and learn when to agree, refuse, or remain undecided,” he advised his son.
