In the world of cats, there are few that stand out as much as Finn, the Maine Coon who has grown to an astonishing size—nearly 1.3 meters long. For comparison, that’s about the height of an average 9-year-old child. Not only is he a sight to behold, but his size often leaves people doing double-takes when they spot him.

A Gentle Giant with a Personality to Match
Finn’s sheer size is no accident. As a Maine Coon, he’s part of a breed known for its impressive stature. But despite his larger-than-life presence, Finn is far from intimidating. According to his owner, Natalie Bowman, he’s just as sweet and affectionate as any cat could be. She describes him as docile, curious, and, above all, affectionate. “He’s really funny, always wants cuddles, and has this goofy, endearing quality,” she says.
This gentle giant isn’t just big in size; he’s also big on love. In fact, Finn’s affection sometimes borders on hyperattachment, and he has been known to experience a bit of separation anxiety when his owner leaves. On days when he struggles with being left alone, Natalie takes him to work with her, where he becomes the office’s unofficial mascot. Finn’s need for affection doesn’t stop at home—he’s a social butterfly who gets along wonderfully with other cats, including Natalie’s other feline companion.

A Walk in the Park… or More Like a Stroll with a Dog?
When Finn goes out for a walk in his California neighborhood, he often turns heads. Residents of San Carlos, a city south of San Francisco, have come to expect the sight of Finn and his owner strolling together. But Finn’s size sometimes causes confusion—many people mistake him for a dog! “It’s so funny,” Natalie laughs. “They think it’s a dog, and then they get closer and realize it’s a cat. It always catches people by surprise, and they just love him.”
Finn was just a 3-month-old kitten when Natalie adopted him in 2017. From that point, his growth was rapid, as Maine Coons are known to grow both in size and weight during their first few years. By the time he was fully grown, he had reached a weight and length that was unlike any ordinary cat. At 1.3 meters, he’s not only big but also solid—he weighs several kilos more than most household cats, making him a truly imposing presence.

A Big Appetite for a Big Cat
Like any growing creature, Finn needs fuel to sustain his size, and his appetite is just as enormous as he is. Natalie spends about $150 per month on his food, feeding him 3 to 4 meals a day. It’s clear that Finn doesn’t just enjoy food for the sake of eating—he relishes every bite. “He’s a big foodie,” says Natalie. “He’s always ready for his next meal.”
When guests visit Natalie’s home, Finn’s appearance often leads to comparisons with a lynx or a wildcat, given his large frame and striking appearance. However, his personality couldn’t be further from the wild animals people associate him with. In fact, he’s the opposite of ferocious—he’s incredibly sociable and enjoys interacting with visitors, including the other cat in the house. Finn’s playful and affectionate nature makes him a beloved pet, and his size only adds to his charm, rather than making him intimidating.

A Giant with a Heart of Gold
Finn is more than just a giant cat; he’s a unique personality in the animal world. His larger-than-life size is matched only by his capacity for love and affection. Whether he’s surprising strangers with his impressive stature, sharing cuddles with his owner, or bonding with other animals, Finn has certainly earned his place as a standout companion. If you ever find yourself walking through San Carlos, don’t be too surprised if you see a giant cat strolling by. It’s just Finn, making the world a little more amazing with every step he takes.
