In a video chat with Vanity Fair, the 20-year-old British star discussed her decision to sport a buzzcut for her iconic role as Eleven on the hit series “Stranger Things,” which debuted in 2016 when she was just 11.
While molding a clay sculpture of herself during the interview, Brown was asked if she intended to add hair to the sculpture.
“Oh. Right, hair. I often overlook hair,” she said, appearing slightly perplexed. “Since I shaved it off, hair just doesn’t seem to be part of my essence anymore,” she confessed.
Future Hair Plans
Appearing on the cover of Vanity Fair’s March edition, dressed in a variety of high-fashion, femme fatale styles, Brown expressed a desire to shave her head again within the next two decades.
Reflecting on her transformation for the first season of the Netflix series, she described shaving her head as “the most significant thing in my life because it gave me so much strength.”
“I absolutely loved having my head shaved. It was an incredible experience and I’d do it again in a heartbeat,” she continued.
Nevertheless, for the upcoming fifth and final season of the series, she has opted to wear a wig.
Ever-Changing Hairstyles
Brown has frequently changed her hairstyle, continually capturing public attention with her bold choices.
Earlier this month, she turned heads by revealing a switch to platinum blonde hair, showcased in an Instagram post featuring her in a form-fitting black dress.
She had previously experimented with this lighter hair color at the October 2022 premiere of “Enola Holmes 2.”
In her discussion with Vanity Fair, Brown delved into the complexities of her character Eleven’s identity and appearance.
“We were constantly debating Eleven’s identity. Would she dress in a feminine manner, or would she wear the shirts of her adoptive father, Hopper? Or would she follow what her friends suggest?” she pondered.
“At that point in my life, I was unsure about my own style preferences—whether I leaned more towards feminine, masculine, androgynous, or grunge looks,” Brown added. “So that uncertainty was reflected in my approach.”
