Meet Naomi W.

Naomi Watts was spotted for the first time on the set of Ryan Murphy’s “American Love Story,” undergoing a dramatic transformation into Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

The scene captured Watts in New York’s Central Park alongside Paul Kelly, who portrays Jackie’s son, John F. Kennedy Jr., in the series directed by Murphy.

A Striking Transformation

At 56, Watts was virtually unrecognizable, trading her well-known platinum blonde bob for the iconic dark brown hairstyle of the former First Lady.

She also donned JBKO’s hallmark oversized sunglasses, paired with a structured sun hat, a gold medallion necklace, and a chic black button-up shirt with coordinating trousers.

Paul Kelly mirrored his character’s casual style in a reversed baseball cap, khakis, and a light white button-up.

Also present was Grace Gummer, playing Jackie’s daughter Caroline Kennedy, actively engaging with two young actresses representing Caroline’s daughters Rose and Tatiana.

Cast and Wardrobe Reactions

Though Sarah Pidgeon, who embodies Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy in this exploration of the tragic young couple, wasn’t seen in these particular scenes, her wardrobe and hairstyle have attracted significant attention from fans.

Devotees of the former Calvin Klein publicist were initially disappointed with the portrayal, citing inaccuracies in her iconic style and her distinctive buttery blonde hair.

Even industry leaders weighed in, with stylist Erica Cloud sharply criticizing, “All of this is a no,” and Erin Noël emphasizing, “Carolyn is a style icon and her wardrobe demands adequate budget, please ensure it’s flawless!” Lauren Santo Domingo, founder of Moda Operandi, also expressed dissatisfaction, noting, “sorry but the wardrobe is wrong.”

Industry Feedback

Brad Johns, the actual hair colorist for the late Bessette-Kennedy, expressed his concerns to Page Six Style, saying, “I adore Ryan Murphy, truly. But something’s off with the costume or hair department because it’s just not right—it looks all white and burnt.”

In response to the criticism, Murphy defended the early images as “a work in progress” and revealed plans to host a group of 20 fashion bloggers dedicated to Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s style this fall to review the wardrobe, alongside a comprehensive advisory committee consulting with his team.

We’re eagerly anticipating more captivating fashion moments from what many consider America’s royal family when the show premieres on FX on Valentine’s Day, 2026.
