Patrick Mahomes Shocked His Teammates Approved His Wild Mohawk: ‘Way Better Now’

Patrick Mahomes is thrilled to have moved on from his iconic mohawk.

At 29, the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs is embracing his new hairstyle, even declaring he looks “way better now” during a press conference, a video of which was posted on X (formerly Twitter) by Rob Collins, the sports director at Fox4 Kansas.

“I had been wanting to get rid of it for some time, but I was a bit superstitious about it,” Mahomes shared regarding his decision to cut his hair. “I kept winning Super Bowls, which was great, but I felt like I shouldn’t change anything while I was on a winning streak.”

Despite the Kansas City Chiefs’ defeat by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2025 Super Bowl, the star athlete had already decided to ditch his signature curls after the championship game.

“I had made it clear during the season that whether we won three straight or lost, I was going to change my hairstyle,” he further explained during the conference.

Reflecting on footage from the previous year, Mahomes expressed his disbelief that his teammates had allowed him to “maintain that untidy hair for so long.” He also made it clear that he has no plans to revert to his old hairstyle. “This is the new look for me moving forward,” affirmed the Pro Bowler.

After the Super Bowl loss, Mahomes was even tempted to go for a much shorter haircut, but his regular barber, DeJuan Bonds, advised against a drastic change.

“He’s typically given me free reign over his haircuts,” Bonds revealed to Us Weekly in February. “This time, though, he was ready for a big change and said, ‘Just cut it all off.’ I had to slow him down and suggest we take it step by step, gradually reducing the length.”

It appears Mahomes has ultimately found the perfect look for himself.
