Snip and Style

Renée Zellweger recently showcased a stylish pixie cut on her cover for the February issue of British Vogue, featuring an interview conducted by her former co-star, Hugh Grant, from “Bridget Jones’s Diary.”

The magazine revealed that hairstylist Syd Hayes looked to David Bowie for inspiration when crafting Zellweger’s new look, particularly the iconic musician’s characteristic fringe and rough edges.

Considering the Cut

Hayes was initially unsure if Zellweger would be open to such a bold change. “Cutting hair short requires the client’s enthusiasm—they’re the ones who need to love it,” he explained. Fortunately, Zellweger was excited about the idea of a new hairstyle.

“She was very receptive to the idea. It wasn’t about Bridget; it was about expressing her own identity,” he said. Hayes emphasized the importance of a decisive, bold cut to achieve a dramatic look, praising Zellweger’s bravery and commitment to the new style. “She really embraced the cut. She believed in it,” he added.

The Technique Behind the Look

To execute the pixie cut, Hayes employed a combination of clippers, scissors, and razor blades. For styling, he used a vintage technique pioneered by Vidal Sassoon known as the wrap dry.

“You use a vent brush and hairdryer to push the hair in various directions around the head,” Hayes described. He noted that this method helps achieve a distinctive, Bowie-like wave in the hair.

Behind the Scenes with Zellweger

In her interview with British Vogue, Zellweger opened up about her break from acting between 2010 and 2016. “I was tired of hearing myself. Every role felt like an echo of an old emotion,” she shared, expressing a need for a break from repetitive emotional roles.

Zellweger returned to the big screen in 2016 with “Bridget Jones’s Baby” and is gearing up for another sequel, “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” set to debut on February 14. The new film follows a now-widowed Jones as she ventures back into the dating scene.

Public Reaction

British Vogue’s Instagram post of Zellweger’s cover drew significant attention, with some fans mistaking her for model Gigi Hadid due to her transformed look. Admirers praised her stunning appearance, with comments like, “OMG! Thought it was Gigi Hadid at first glance,” and “She looks phenomenal! .” Model Lila Moss also chimed in with a supportive “Yes yes yes.”

The reaction online underscores the success of Zellweger’s bold new style, marking another iconic moment in the actress’s distinguished career.
