BALTIMORE – Should there be another live-action “Cinderella” film, Sabrina Carpenter might just be the perfect fit for the lead role.
After ten years of rising to stardom, Sabrina Carpenter, at 25, has seemingly stepped out of a Disney film, embodying the essence of a pop princess.
Her golden curls, charming mannerisms, and melodious voice make Carpenter a standout in the pop music scene, her tracks a blend of polished production and a hint of zest.
Last Saturday, Carpenter captivated a full house at the CFG Bank Arena, marking the eighth show of her first arena tour, the Short n’ Sweet Tour, which will continue entertaining audiences until November.
The stage show, designed like a 1970s variety program, featured playful notifications such as “filmed in front of a live studio audience” and a “parental discretion is advised” warning before her sultry number “Bed Chem.” The set-up mixed elements of a Barbie Dreamhouse with vibes reminiscent of “Three’s Company.”
Carpenter referred to her stage setup as the “penthouse,” which included glossy white staircases, a translucent-curtained section for her four-member band, and a bathroom with a heart-shaped mirror where she performed “Sharpest Tool.”
Sabrina Carpenter Throws an Onstage Pajama Party
The concert kicked off with a dynamic start as Carpenter delivered three songs from her latest hit album, “Short n’ Sweet,” beginning with the popular track “Taste.” She showcased her acting chops by initially appearing wrapped in what seemed to be just a bath towel, which she swiftly removed to reveal a shimmering silver leotard and garters.
The arena was awash in shades of pink, with young girls in glittery dresses lifted by their fathers and young adults in flouncy skirts, fully embracing Carpenter’s feminine flair.
“Good morning, Baltimore,” Carpenter greeted, cleverly referencing “Hairspray” in one of many interactions with her audience, amid hosting what resembled an onstage slumber party.
As her group of female dancers posed on the staircase, Carpenter sang “Lie to Girls,” infusing the performance with thoughtful glances and airy vocals, then glided down the catwalk for a jazzy rendition of “Feather.”
Sabrina Carpenter Pays Homage to Madonna
“This is the most fun thing in the world for me,” Carpenter expressed to her fans, who responded with enthusiastic cheers.
It was unclear whether she was referring to performing in general or to the special segment that followed.
Carpenter created a cozy nook at the heart-shaped end of the catwalk, complete with cushions for her band members and dancers to recline on.
The song “Coincidence,” a burgeoning bubblegum pop hit, was performed with exuberant glee. Following this, Carpenter treated her fans to a highly anticipated cover, determined by a spin-the-bottle game, which landed on Madonna’s “Material Girl.” The choice was fitting, both for Carpenter’s vocal style and her onstage persona, prompting her to invite the crowd to sing along as the lyrics scrolled across the screen, karaoke-style.
Sabrina Carpenter Shares an Emotional Moment
The concert’s final segment highlighted Carpenter’s recent hits and tracks from “Short n’ Sweet,” including “Juno.” The song’s lyric “have you ever tried this one?” led Carpenter to strike a new pose at each show, this time a one-legged bent knee stance that thrilled the audience.
Before closing with her powerhouse pop anthem “Espresso,” which ended in a burst of confetti, Carpenter once again connected with her fans. Complimenting their outfits, she was suddenly overwhelmed with emotion, covering her mouth as she fought back tears of gratitude.
This year marks a significant evolution from her days on Disney Channel’s “Girl Meets World” (2014-2017), transitioning from an emerging pop talent to a reigning pop monarch, reminiscent of a real-life Cinderella story.
