This bizarre French customer habit is driving shop owners crazy
Many people are always on the lookout for great deals to boost their monthly income. For some, this endeavor has evolved far beyond just making extra cash—they’re earning thousands of dollars every month.
It’s rare to find someone who wouldn’t want to earn a bit more money. Some have mastered the art and substantially supplement their monthly income. A select few even boast earnings of several thousand dollars per month, turning what might be considered a side hustle into a full-time job. While anyone can attempt this, it requires significant time and dedication. However, the financial rewards can be substantial!
At the age of 17, Virgil Dutilleul, who started at 13, managed to earn up to $4,000 a month with this method and even left school to pursue it full-time, he shared with Midi Libre. This venture enabled him to launch his own clothing brand, Menose, with an initial investment of $15,000. He is not the only one finding success; according to Le Parisien, three young men between the ages of 18 and 23 reported monthly revenues of $3,500 to $5,000, earning themselves $1,500 to $3,000 in net income each month.
How do they do it? They engage in the buy-and-sell business on Vinted. Specifically, they purchase low-priced clothing on the platform (sometimes using bots to find deals) and sell them at a higher price, then reinvest some of their earnings into more clothing, continuing the cycle. Others buy in bulk from wholesalers, but it’s crucial to choose carefully, as there are sometimes customs duties to pay, and some suppliers may sell counterfeit goods.
For those interested in pursuing a similar path, be aware that it demands a lot of time: sourcing the clothes, buying them, picking them up, laundering, ironing, taking attractive photos, posting listings, responding promptly to potential buyers (to avoid losing a sale), packaging the items, and shipping them. In short, it’s quite demanding. Additionally, it’s important to remember that all second-hand income must be declared to the tax authorities, and one must register as a “professional seller,” as can be done on platforms like Vinted or Leboncoin. Failing to do so could result in penalties of up to 300,000 euros in fines and two years of imprisonment for “deceptive business practices.”
