Interested in withdrawing funds from your company savings plan? This is possible under certain specific conditions.
Are you familiar with what a company savings plan, or PEE, is? It’s a collective savings scheme offered by a company to its employees to help them build up savings while enjoying tax benefits. All employees of a company are eligible, though sometimes a minimum of 3 months of tenure is required. In companies with fewer than 250 employees, the leader is also included in the plan. The PEE is funded by employee contributions as well as amounts from profit-sharing, value-sharing bonuses, or bonuses from the company value enhancement plan.
Under legal provisions, the funds are locked in for a period of 5 years from each contribution date. However, there are exceptions that allow for early withdrawal of the entire amount or a portion of it. For instance, an employee can request to withdraw funds if they get married or enter into a civil partnership, at the birth or adoption of a third child, if they separate with custody of at least one child, due to disability, the death of a partner, termination of employment, or if they wish to start or take over a business. Another common situation is the ability to unlock the PEE for purchasing a home, conducting energy renovations, or restoring it after a natural disaster.
Additionally, there are lesser-known circumstances. For example, an employee can withdraw funds from their PEE to purchase a new eco-friendly vehicle or a new pedal-assist bicycle. Moreover, an employee can also release funds from their PEE in cases of severe indebtedness.
Early in January, the Minister for Small and Medium Enterprises, Serge Papin, announced that the government is looking to expand this option, up to a limit of 2000 euros, to the most financially disadvantaged households. This is currently just a proposal and has not yet been finally adopted. It is set to be debated in the coming weeks at the National Assembly.
