What’s ‘Wicked’ All About?

The film, which serves as an unofficial prequel to “The Wizard of Oz,” follows the early days and the surprising friendship between Elphaba (Cythia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande) at Shiz University.

Ariana Grande shared with People that the film “forever changed” her, while Cythia Erivo remarked on “The Late Show” that working with Grande was “a dream.” Erivo continued, “We really understood what was needed from each other to bring these characters to life. I feel fortunate to have gained a lifelong friend from this experience.”

Is ‘Wicked’ a Two-Part Film?

The “Wicked” team filmed the second part, titled “Wicked: For Good,” right after completing the first. The release date is set for November 21, 2025, almost exactly a year after the first part’s debut.

Erivo gave a sneak peek into the sequel’s music in a Variety interview last year, mentioning, “I had a hand in one of the new songs, and it holds a special place in my heart. The whole crew was moved to tears during its filming.”
