UK Country Music Snubbed At Brit Awards – Laura Klonowski
Right now the UK Country Music scene is at an all time high and homegrown acts are doing better than ever, but despite the success of British Country stars the Brit Awards have failed to celebrate the success of the genre.
The nominations for the 2017 Brit Awards have been announced and there is not a single Country Music star nominated in any category.
But the biggest shock is the fact they have snubbed the two UK Country acts, Ward Thomas and The Shires. Both duos had incredibly successful 2016’s, but both have been overlooked by the award ceremony’s critics.
Ward Thomas’ ‘Cartwheels’ album was the first by a British Country act to top the UK album chart, and fellow Brit duo The Shires’ LP ‘My Universe’ was the fastest selling by a Country act last year.
Both acts deserved nominations and recognition for their record breaking years and it’s such a shame that they have been overlooked and that the UK’s Country Music scene is not being celebrated by the Brit Awards.
