UK’s First National Country Radio ‘Country Hits’ to Launch this April
It’s officially the fastest growing genre of music in Britain and now it’s finally going to get a much wider, mainstream audience thanks to Country Hits; the very first UK national radio station for Country Music. This news is extremely exciting and highlights the incredible impact Country is having on the UK music industry right now.
With homegrown acts such as Ward Thomas, The Shires, Catherine McGrath and The Wandering Hearts and international stars including the likes Sarah Darling, Carrie Underwood, Shania Twain, Lady Antebellum, Chris Stapleton all making huge chart impacts and selling thousands of concert tickets whenever they hit the road, it’s safe to say that there is a true and real hunger for the Country genre right here in the UK.
We have the hugely popular C2C Festival, and new festivals popping up every year including Long Road, Blackdeer and for the first time this year the British Country Music Festival. The genre has never been more popular across Britain and fans of all ages are finally feeling able to shout loud and proud that they are a fan of Country.
Up until just a few years ago the genre was seen as a Nashville staple and songs were thought to only be about trucks and cowboys by many. But thanks to the likes of UK acts Ward Thomas and The Shires the barrier has been broken and Brits are finally realising that Country is a genre that just has great songs.
Unlike many other styles of music, Country relies heavily on storytelling and this means it is the most relatable genre of music out there. There is always going to be lyrics that connect with the audience and the strong family values that run throughout the Country community makes it the most homely genre where everyone feels like one big family supporting the artists and music they love.
And now British fans will finally have a national radio playing Country songs all day thanks to Country Hits. The station launches on April 5th via DAB, online and the official app. Hosts for the shows are Jennie Longdon, Scarlett Howard, Baylen Leonard, Una Healy, Ty Bentli, Lou Nash and Emma Jones!
