Up To Date With Sheryl Crow
Nine times Grammy award winner Sheryl Crow has revealed that her next studio album, due for release on 30th August, will be called “Threads”. It’s an album of duets, and sees the multi talented musician/singer songwriter/actress and well known humanitarian and philanthropist working with a variety of artists and writers from different genres. Of the album, Sheryl has said “As I became a mother, I’ve explored life through my children and seen the greater impact of our actions and voices. This collection is the ‘Threads’ of both my inspirations and younger artists carrying the torch for humanity with their stories.”
As well as her previously released duet with Johnny Cash, “Redemption Day”, the track listing will include “Live Wire” made available a few days ago, which sees Sheryl collaborating with two other musical icons, Mavis Staples and Bonnie Raitt. Bearing in mind the artists involved, it will come as no surprise that this is a gritty blend of country/rock/blues and gospel, with the three sharing lead vocals during the verses while blending and harmonising during the choruses. And of course there’s some killer guitar playing! It’s a really fun song anyway but in addition it sounds as if they had a blast recording this together, just listen to the laughter and ad libs, in particular at the very end.
Sheryl, who signed with Scott Brochetta’s Big Machine Label Group earlier this year, has announced Summer tour dates throughout Europe (including Glastonbury Festival) followed by a string of shows in the States and Canada. Busy times ahead, for sure, as well as this project she is working alongside Brandi Carlisle, Maren Morris and Amanda Shires in the supergroup “The Highwomen”.
And it has just been announced that she is will be performing at the CMT Awards held in Nashville on June 5th.
