Michaela Anne Album News

Having already told you about how I instantly fell under the spell of Nashville’s Michaela Anne back in 2017 (you can read all about that here in my interview with her https://www.bellesandgals.com/2017/08/10/michaela-anne-interview-with-lesley-hastings/ ) I definitely wasn’t going to miss her first London headline show recently and the set included some superb new songs which she told us are from her next album, including the lead single “By Our Design” which is available now. It’s a dreamy song with an equally beautiful video celebrating the unconventional lifestyle she and her husband chose to live as musicians.

More details about this album, Michaela’s third, are now available, and “Desert Dove” is to be released on September 27th on the artist driven Yep Roc Records, with Sam Outlaw and Kelly Winch co-producing. Recorded over several weeks in California it doesn’t lean as hard on the more traditional arrangements and instrumentation that dominated her previous releases but incorporates more modern production elements. The sweeping arrangements of the lead single are apparently typical of what to expect, but like on this track Michaela’s stunning vocals are always to the fore.
“This record, for me, highlights the gray area, the nuance of emotional life and relationships that seems to be harder to convey in today’s modes of communication and limited attention spans: short excerpts on Instagram or Twitter paragraphs,” says Michaela Anne in a recent press release. “Nothing is black and white, solely good or bad. Who we are, how we live, how we love, what we desire or reject, it’s all full of contradictions and confusions. I wanted to explore that through my songs with care, depth, reality as well as light-heartedness, fun and fantasy “.
And apparently there’s a strong feminine perspective running through several of the tracks, I can’t wait to hear the title track in particular written about a prostitute who challenges the traditional perception of women as a source of comfort and service to men (thanks to Michaela’s website for this bit of information!) . And I find the title of the fifth track particularly intriguing!

Michaela is playing several dates through the summer in the States, and just before the album release will be appearing at Nashville’s Americana Music Fest. I’m really hoping for some UK shows post album release too!!
