Country-pop superstar Kelsea Ballerini has launched the countdown to her third album with the release of “the most emotional single I have ever released”. The track titled ‘Homecoming Queen?’ had been teased by Ballerini on social media over the past week. A number of fans were also lucky to receive mugs with a question mark emblazed on them ahead of the announcement.
it’s definitely the most emotional single I’ve released https://t.co/1kyvsPClxM

‘Homecoming Queen’ is a beautiful track led by a soft acoustic guitar and Ballerini’s incredibly polished and powerfully raw vocals. Almost a ballad in nature, the track is sobering with hard hitting lyrics such as “When somebody’s mean where do you hide?”, “Did you want the crown? Or does it weigh you down” and “not everything pretty sparkles and shines” cutting heavily into the emotions of listeners.
Written by Nicolle Galyon and Jimmy Robbins, Ballerini describes the premise of the track as “a metaphor for somebody that seemingly has it all together and polished from the outside looking in.” The track airs a more sombre and emotional tone compared to Ballerini’s sophomore release, described by Belles and Gals as an ‘upbeat pop-country crossover’. The new project from Ballerini is expected to have more tracks to pull at listeners heartstrings and to cry to despite the fact that Ballerini is happily married to fellow country star Morgan Evans.
“I’m writing the most heartbreaking songs I’ve ever written because I understand what went wrong before now. I think the older I get … the more confident I feel about writing that kind of stuff.” Ballerini told The Tennessean back in August. Alongside, the release of the track Ballerini has released a beautifully cinematic music video which was also teased on social media.
After achieving incredible successes with her debut and sophomore albums, ‘Homecoming Queen?’ is a great taste of what is to come with Ballerini’s third project, expected early 2020 under Black River Entertainment. Prior to the end of the year, Ballerini is set for a number of live performances including at London’s Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park. A full list of dates is below.
