INTERVIEW: Sarah Darling Talks London Union Chapel Christmas Show

On Monday, December 2nd US country music sensation and adopted Brit Sarah Darling will arrive in London for her spectacular Christmas show at the Union Chapel with special guests. Indie superstar Jamie Lawson has been announced so far and more top talent will join the Iowan on stage throughout the night for a magical, unique experience, the event will be Darling’s last live show of the year after a hugely impressive 2019 which also included a UK number 1 album on the Country Chart with ‘Wonderland’.

Here, we chat with Sarah Darling to discuss her forthcoming festive concert, Christmas traditions, plus new music:

Your Christmas show is just a week away, what made you decide to put this kind of
concert together?
Living in Nashville and being able to play music with so many of my friends, I wanted to bring that experience to London. Most people have never seen the backstage of the Opry, and it’s pure magic. There’s a family and togetherness I want to create at Union Chapel on December 2nd! I hope everyone feels wonderful when they leave.

The event will be held at Union Chapel, a venue you’ve performed in before, how do you feel its
charm will add to the overall feel of the gig?
It’s seriously the most magical venue I’ve ever performed in.  The last time I played, I literally didn’t want to leave the stage. Some places just have the je ne sais quoi!

You’ve also announced Jamie Lawson as a special guest, can you give us any further hints on
who else we can expect to be joining you?
I’m so honoured to have Jamie Lawson! He’s such a gem of a human, and I loved getting the opportunity to support him on his last tour.  As far as other guests, all I can say is that they are some of my greatest friends!

You shared your Christmas covers LP Winter Wonderland in 2017, can fans expect to hear that
record in its entirety?
You will hear those songs before the end of the night! Possibly with friends doing their versions.

You’re currently working on new music so can we expect an original festive release off you this
year?
Right now I am doing a lot of songwriting and starting to build a list of favorites for my next project. Who knows, maybe you’ll hear one or two of these mixed into the set at Union Chapel! I recently released the first track of Campfire Sessions which has received a great response from fans. There may be some more Campfire Sessions tracks in the coming months! For now, my newest single Divide My good friends Catherine and Lizzy Ward Thomas contributed vocals to the recording.

We can’t talk about Christmas without mentioning traditions, so what is your all-time favourite
tradition that you do every holiday season?
Christmas morning my mom and I will drink coffee and eat way too many iced cookies.  I love that
time together, and baking with her is so wonderful.

The festive concert in London will be your last UK date of 2019, what has been the standout
moment you’ve had in Britain this year?

Nashville Meets London was an epic moment for me! Seeing Canary Wharf filled with country fans was incredible.  A close second is singing for the US Embassy in the UK. I have had an incredible ride.

Can we expect to see you back for C2C and another headline tour in 2020?
You’ll certainly see me back in the UK in 2020. Nothing I can share publicly at this point though!

Tickets for Sarah Darling’s Christmas show at the Union Chapel in London are on sale now!
