In recent weeks, Taylor Swift has been spotted wearing opal jewelry pieces that belonged to the iconic actress. She was first seen with an opal ring and a round-cut bracelet during an outing in April in New York City, and later sported a marquise-shaped bracelet during an interview with the New York Times Magazine.
The ensemble was completed when the Grammy award-winning singer was seen in Brooklyn, sporting both bracelets, the ring, and a pair of dramatic chandelier earrings. Adam Fox of Fox Estate Jewelry hinted in an Instagram Reel that Kelce might have been the one who purchased the unique set for his future bride.
Journey of the Jewelry: From Auction to Icon
The complete set, designed by Darlene de Sedle, was initially auctioned by Christie’s in 2011 for $6,000, as the auction house confirmed to Page Six Style, and later sold by Fox’s company through 1stDibs in 2025 for $125,000.
The transaction occurred “during Christmas time,” according to Fox, and the buyer was a sports agent—a rather unusual client for such items. “Mostly on these high-ticket online platforms, people usually reach out with questions, or sometimes to negotiate. This sale was out of the blue,” the third-generation estate jeweler explained to Page Six Style.
Although the purchase seemed odd at first, the mystery was solved when an Instagram post from WeWoreWhatJewels featured Swift wearing the full suite. “Ah, now it makes much more sense,” Fox remarked, finding it “very cool” to see his sold jewelry on one of the most famous women globally.
As to whether Kelce—or someone from his team—was the mysterious buyer, Fox maintained a professional discretion, stating, “I’m just the jewelry dealer. It was just an assumption because it was shipped to a sports agent.”
The Significance of the Opal Suite
The jewelry suite was exceptionally fitting for Swift for several reasons. Her latest album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” features a track inspired by Elizabeth Taylor, and her hit “Opalite,” a lively tribute to Kelce, which he has declared his favorite song from the album.
The opal holds personal significance for Kelce, being his birthstone, but Swift’s affinity for the gem predates their relationship. “My favorite stone is an opal because it comforted me when I was bullied in school. My mom would take me to TJ Maxx to look at opal jewelry after school. We never bought any; just looking at them made me feel better,” she shared with Us Weekly in 2016.
Fox was initially attracted to the suite for its Hollywood background, excellent quality, and unique design by Darlene de Sedle—a designer not widely recognized despite Taylor owning several of her pieces. Following its 2011 sale at Christie’s, the set was out of the public eye for over a decade, adding to its allure.
Reflecting on the sale’s conclusion, Fox expressed satisfaction that the jewelry went to someone who truly values it. “Knowing that Taylor Swift has a song about Elizabeth Taylor, it all clicks. It seems like the purchase was made with a lot of thought. And transferring from one icon, Elizabeth Taylor, to another icon of today, Taylor Swift? That’s pretty spectacular,” he concluded.
