The Iconic Versace Jungle Dress Makes a Comeback

It’s official: the legendary Versace jungle dress has made its return, and Jennifer Lopez is all for it.

The celebrated singer and actress recently expressed her enthusiasm for the Prime Video series “Off Campus” on X on Monday, following a viral moment featuring actress Mika Abdalla donning a replica of Lopez’s renowned green Versace dress from the 2000 Grammy Awards.

In a memorable moment from the series’ second episode, Abdalla, portraying Allie Hayes, makes a dramatic entrance to a costume party in the iconic, deep-cut green gown, just as Lopez’s hit “On the Floor” starts playing in the background.

“Oh my god, wait! This is me!” she exclaims in the scene, dancing to the beat while Stephen Kalyn’s character, Dean Di Laurentis, dressed as a “Top Gun” pilot with an open flight suit, approaches to dance with her.

Jennifer Lopez Showers Praise on “Off Campus”

Lopez couldn’t hide her excitement about the show, writing on X, “love this shooooww,” as she shared the clip, which had been captioned by another user as, “chemistry so crazy I held my breath the entire scene.”

In a recent interview with Betches UK, Abdalla shared the extensive efforts that went into recreating the famous dress for the show.

“It was unreal. They built that thing from scratch,” she explained. “My first fitting involved me wearing a nude leotard which they then cut up and pinned all over. It took about five fittings. The whole process was insane. I was taped in so tightly, I was ready to dance all night—and that’s exactly what I did.”

Lopez herself is no stranger to the challenges of securing the revealing gown. She previously mentioned that during the Grammy Awards, the primary concern was ensuring that her dress stayed in place. “There was never any danger of any wardrobe malfunctions. I was so securely stuck into that dress, nothing was going to move,” she said.

The Legacy of the Versace Jungle Dress

The tropical-print Versace dress not only became an iconic fashion moment but also earned its place as one of the most searched-for items on the internet. Its popularity was so immense that it even prompted the creation of Google Image Search.

Lopez revisited her famous look in 2019 by closing out the Versace spring 2020 runway show in Milan, wearing an even more daring version of the original dress.

The series “Off Campus,” which is a romantic drama set in a college environment and based on Elle Kennedy’s bestselling novels, made its debut on Prime Video on May 13.
