To test out this trend, Danielle Sinay, the associate beauty editor at Glamour, drank chia seeds in water every day for a month. Here’s what happened.

The experiment began when her doctor suggested she should increase her intake of fibers and proteins after she had to abruptly stop taking Ozempic, a medication initially meant for diabetes but used for weight loss. Since then, she decided to drink this chia seed and water beverage daily around noon, which is typically when her blood sugar levels drop. Chia seeds are indeed a superfood, containing omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, trace elements, as well as fibers and proteins. “I noticed a significant difference not just in my hunger levels, but also in my energy and fullness throughout the day. It also greatly helped with gas and bloating, which I am unfortunately very prone to,” she shared. While individual reactions may vary, many doctors agree that chia seeds are an excellent choice for controlling mid-day cravings. “Due to the high fiber and protein content in chia seeds, when you add them to water, a meal, or a dessert, they can help you feel fuller as they expand in the liquid, potentially leading to reduced appetite,” explains Jennifer Beery, a registered dietitian. In addition, they improve digestion, prevent constipation, stabilize blood sugar levels, and help maintain hydration.

If you want to give this a try to boost your weight loss efforts, the best time to consume chia seeds in water is in the morning. This can keep you satiated until lunch and help prevent overeating. However, it’s important to note that while chia seeds are filled with benefits, they are not magical. They promote a feeling of fullness and can help reduce your overall calorie intake, but losing weight will still require you to adjust your diet accordingly.
