Alec Baldwin has shared that Melania Trump is a fan of his portrayal of Donald Trump on “Saturday Night Live,” believing that it accurately reflects her husband’s personality.

During an event at the 92nd Street Y, Baldwin recounted a revealing story he heard about Melania’s reaction to his performance. He told the audience that Sean Spicer, the former press secretary for Trump, disclosed some interesting details at the Emmys. According to Baldwin, Spicer might have been a bit tipsy and told the “SNL” staff, “Melania watches the show every Saturday night. She points at the TV and goes, ‘That’s exactly what he’s like! Alec Baldwin has nailed it! That’s Donald!'”
Baldwin expressed to the attendees how humorous and fitting Melania’s comments were. “We couldn’t stop laughing, but it actually made sense! She really enjoys it when the show teases him,” he said.
Alec Baldwin’s Tenure as Donald Trump on SNL
From October 2016 until November 2020, Baldwin famously impersonated the President on the popular late-night sketch show, even earning an Emmy for his portrayal in 2017. Following Baldwin, the role of Donald Trump has been taken over by James Austin Johnson.
Donald Trump himself hosted “Saturday Night Live” twice, once in November 2015 and earlier in April 2004.
Donald Trump’s Critique of SNL
It appears that the real Donald Trump has a less enthusiastic view of Baldwin’s impersonation and the show overall. Trump has voiced his displeasure publicly, criticizing the show on Twitter. “Watched Saturday Night Live hit job on me. Time to retire the boring and unfunny show,” Trump tweeted, adding, “Alec Baldwin portrayal stinks. Media rigging election!” In another tweet, he remarked, “Just tried watching ‘Saturday Night Live’ – unwatchable! Totally biased, not funny and the Baldwin impersonation just can’t get any worse. Sad.”
In 2022, Trump continued his critique, tweeting about his past experience hosting the show and its current ratings. “I once hosted ‘Saturday Night Live,’ and the ratings were HUUUGE! Now, however, the ratings are lower than ever before, and the show will probably be put to rest,” he claimed.
Melania Trump also Mimicked on SNL
“Saturday Night Live” has also parodied Melania Trump in the past. Actress Cecily Strong portrayed her for several seasons in a recurring segment titled “Melania Moments.”
