He thought he was rescuing a sheep—but it turned out to be something else
This bizarre French customer habit is driving shop owners crazy
In its latest issue, the magazine 60 Million Consumers embarked on a test of anti-wrinkle serums. The outcome? Among the ten products evaluated, the top performer is from a French brand.
Are anti-wrinkle serums truly effective or just marketing hype? This is the question that 60 Million Consumers aimed to answer in their recent publication by testing ten different serums. To conduct the test, panelists applied the serums to one half of their face for 28 days and filled out a questionnaire about the product’s feel, ease of use, and perceived performance in terms of smoothing, plumping, and brightness. But that’s not all: the serums’ compositions were also analyzed for health and environmental risks, resulting in what the publication refers to as the Cosméto’Score. Which product came out on top? An anti-wrinkle product from a French brand, which you might have already tried.
Let’s clear up one thing right away: none of the serums were praised for extraordinary effectiveness on wrinkles. However, one serum did stand out. Formulated with retinol, soybean oil, and castor oil, it promises to smooth the skin, delay the onset of wrinkles, and boost collagen production—all within four weeks. The Typology A61 Wrinkles and Fine Lines serum emerged with a very respectable score of 14.8/20. In the Cosméto’Score for health and environmental impact, the product earned an A (the highest rating), and it received good marks for its anti-wrinkle effect, hydration, brightness, ease of use, and comfort. Of course, don’t expect a miracle, but “even though the anti-wrinkle performance isn’t pronounced, the panelists were satisfied starting from the sixteenth day for Typology“, according to the magazine. The downside? The smoothing effect of the serum did not meet the participants’ expectations. As for the price, the brand lists the product at 38€ on its website. Yes, anti-aging comes at a cost.
Coming in second place, Vichy’s Liftactiv serum scored 14.6/20. While it generally received good ratings, it earned a B in the Cosméto’Score Health, possibly due to the presence of irritating ingredients. The rest of the ranking includes products from brands like Filorga, SVR, Lierac, Avène, Sephora, Kiehl’s, and Caudalie, with La Roche-Posay rounding out the list.
The first commonality among these serums? They all rely on active ingredients like hyaluronic acid, retinol, and niacinamide for their anti-aging effects, with varying degrees of success. The second? “While they may not fill in wrinkles, the serums fulfill other expectations. The panelists found these serums easy to apply and pleasant to use in terms of texture, scent, etc., leaving them with the impression of better hydrated, firmer, and more radiant skin with fewer imperfections“, the publication notes.
