A Legacy Brand Dominates for Two Straight Years
Each year, millions of consumers walk into perfume shops and beauty salons in search of the perfect cream, a miracle serum, or a signature scent. This bizarre French customer habit is driving shop owners crazy
To compile these rankings, Ipsos and Bonial surveyed a whopping 10,000 French individuals using a quota sampling method to ensure an accurate representation of national preferences. A total of 359 brands across 20 industries were thoroughly examined. In the beauty sector, 19 brands were carefully assessed based on eleven specific criteria: product range, product quality, price attractiveness, frequency and generosity of promotions, commitment to sustainability, and ease of access in stores. This provided a detailed picture of what French beauty enthusiasts truly seek.
The standout winner of this second edition of the barometer was none other than Yves Rocher, securing the “Top Brand” title in the hygiene and beauty category once again. The brand from Brittany, a pioneer in botanical cosmetics since its inception in La Gacilly in 1959, scored an attractiveness index of 24.3 points, showing a slight increase from the previous year. What is its formula for winning over generation after generation? A quality-price ratio that skincare and makeup lovers consistently endorse, a promotion policy that is frequent, generous, and genuinely useful in everyday life, and plant-based formulas that appeal to consumers concerned about what goes on their skin. This iconic green-labeled brand outpaced Aroma-Zone, a haven for DIY formulators who secured the second position with a score of 22.8 points, showing significant improvement, and Adopt Perfumes, which rounded out this highly aromatic podium.
While the top three spots remained notably stable this year, fierce competition raged in certain strategic areas. Nocibé edged out Sephora in terms of retail accessibility, while Aroma-Zone now surpasses Lush in corporate social responsibility commitments. Clean beauty and purchasing power: these are the two definitive battles shaping our routines in 2026.
