How Season 22 wrapped up

The 22nd season closed on another of the series’ trademark large-scale incidents: the Royer Bridge collapses, forcing the Grey-Sloan team into a high-stakes rescue and triage situation.

The finale also marked the departure of Drs. Owen Hunt and Teddy Altman (Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver). After reconciling in the aftermath of the bridge disaster, the couple decide to leave for Paris, where Teddy has accepted a position.

Following the crash, Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) saves Dr. Nick Marsh’s (Scott Speedman) life. Confronted with the possibility of losing another partner, Meredith proposes to Nick — and he says yes.

The finale set up multiple threads for Season 23, including Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) returning to academia and Dr. Benson “Blue” Kwan (Harry Shum Jr.) fighting to regain his standing in Grey Sloan’s residency program.
