Discussions about this year’s Emmy nomination surprises and overlooked entries were a hot topic yesterday. Executives spilled to Page Six Hollywood, pointing out how pivotal the quality of For Your Consideration (FYC) panels is in determining a show’s success or failure.

An awards expert commented, “Some had great series but failed in their campaigning efforts by depending too much on celebrity moderators. These panels are often undervalued.”
The source also mentioned, “I knew ‘Half Man’ was doomed” following a poorly managed FYC panel. “Handling these events well is an art, and the smart organizations are aware of that and manage to secure nominations.”
Despite its expected status as a major contender, HBO’s “Half Man,” starring show creator Richard Gadd, Jamie Bell, Stuart Campbell, and Mitchell Robertson, only managed to snag a best supporting nomination for Gadd (“Baby Reindeer”).
Another insider expressed excitement over the numerous nominations for “The Pitt” announced yesterday.
“With multiple individuals from the same series nominated, it stirs the pot. Voters might lean towards one nominee, or votes could be divided, paving the way for an unexpected third to win, which is the type of behind-the-scenes strategy I find thrilling!” the source explained.
“The Pitt” remarkably earned 25 nominations, including two for guest actors who independently campaigned without HBO’s backing.
Brittany Allen, portraying a woman battling cancer, and Jeff Kober, playing a character with a serious illness, both achieved guest star nominations due to their efforts.
This isn’t the first instance of HBO actors taking a DIY approach to nominations. Alfie Allen, Gwendoline Christie, and Carice van Houten all self-submitted and received nominations for their roles in the final season of “Game of Thrones” back in 2019.
