How Parents Can Help Their Children Feel More Relaxed

Parents often feel helpless when they notice their child constantly on edge, being defiant, exhausted, and stressed. Young children, in particular, experience intensified emotions, which can lead to easy frustration. They may throw tantrums and express anger when attempts to calm them are made. Despite parents’ best efforts to provide for their needs, entertain them, and organize family outings, these issues persist.

The pressures of school performance, timely completion of homework, preparation for tests, after-school activities, and managing younger siblings at home can quickly overwhelm children. Jo Frost, a renowned British nanny, points out a common mistake most parents make which likely contributes to their child’s stressful daily life.

The expert advises parents against packing their child’s schedule with too many activities. Instead, she suggests setting aside quality, free time for play and crafts. “Many of you schedule activities because you find it challenging to be with your kids. But they are stressed because it’s too much, leading to unruly behavior,” she explains.

Frost recommends allowing children to be “themselves” and encouraging spontaneity to foster creativity. The key is to take a break and simply enjoy the present moment as a family!
