What are the trending names for 2025? The 22nd edition of The Official Names of 2025, released on September 5, 2024, by First Editions, outlines, as it does each year, the top 20 names for girls and boys that are likely to be popular with expectant parents for the coming year. In these rankings, some names hold their ground like Gabriel, who remains at the top of the boys’ list as last year, while others stand out. For the girls, two names, Ambre and Louise, share the top spot as it was too close to call a single winner, dethroning Alba, who led last year and now comes in third.

Confirmed Naming Trends

According to insights from Stéphanie Rapport and Claire Tabarly, certain naming trends are holding strong. Among the popular names for the coming year, we see a lot of short names, names starting with ‘A’ that have one or two syllables, as well as names inspired by nature or possessing a retro vibe. For boys, biblical names or those with “a resonance across the three monotheistic religions” are on the rise: names like Gabriel, Raphaël, Noah, Adam, and Isaac stand out. However, compound names are no longer very popular!
