In anticipation of Taylor Swift’s latest album, Spotify has unveiled a three-day event at High Line Nine in New York City. This free experience is available to all fans from September 30 to October 2, right before the album drops on October 3.
Page Six had an early look at the pop-up on its first day, and it’s classic Taylor Swift, brimming with hidden references. Here are a few highlights from “The Life of a Showgirl: A Spotify Experience.”
Giant Orange Door
The entrance to the experience is through a large orange door, reminiscent of the one from Taylor Swift’s final Eras Tour performance of “Karma.” This marked the transition from one chapter of her career to the next.
Bathtub Overflowing with Flowers
This installation pays homage to the protagonist of the album’s “Hamlet”-inspired lead track, “The Fate of Ophelia.” In the iconic play by Shakespeare, Ophelia, overwhelmed by grief and madness after Polonius—her father—is killed by her lover, Hamlet, meets her end in a floral-laden stream, a scene mirrored on Swift’s album cover.
“In Search of Ophelia” Book
This book is the third in a series by Amelia Elizabeth Walden. It follows Miranda Welch, an aspiring actress tangled in a love triangle while preparing to portray Ophelia.
Handwritten Letter
A significant detail is the crest on Swift’s stationery, identical to the one she used in her announcement about acquiring her master recordings. This motif recurs throughout the Spotify experience.
Opalite Marbles
Opalite, unlike natural opal, is a synthetic glass that mimics the stone’s ethereal glow. It is also the inspiration for Track 3 on “The Life of a Showgirl.”
Valentine’s Day Card
As exclusively reported by Page Six in February, Taylor Swift’s fiancé, Travis Kelce, spared no expense for Valentine’s Day, lavishing Swift with a bounty of gifts including flowers, jewelry, and clothing, plus “something extremely personal.” He crafted a handmade Valentine’s Day card for Swift, as revealed by an insider.
“Oftentimes it doesn’t feel so glamorous to be me”
This new lyric echoes Swift’s sentiments shared on the “New Heights” podcast hosted by Travis and Jason Kelce in August. “This album isn’t really about my onstage life, but rather my personal experiences offstage,” Swift commented about the album’s deeper themes.
“Keep It 100”
During the “New Heights” podcast, Travis Kelce remarked, “I’m 87 and she’s 13, and together we’re perfect 100. We always keep it real.” This sentiment was also echoed in a caption for a series of their recent adventures shared on Instagram, marking their relationship’s social media confirmation.
Padlock
The combination set on this intriguing padlock was 1-2-1-2. Could something significant be happening on December 12, just a day before Swift’s birthday?
“I heard you calling”
This phrase hints at another potential lyric from the upcoming album.
Sabrina Carpenter Photo
Carpenter, who features on the album’s title track, also opened for Swift during select dates of her Eras Tour and made appearances during the shows in New Orleans and Sydney.
Lucky Number 13 Key
True to Swift’s well-known affection for the number 13, Spotify has peppered the pop-up with various allusions to her favorite number.
Portraits of Eras Tour Dancers
The exhibit highlights the talented female dancers from Swift’s tour, though the male dancers, such as Jan Ravnik and Kameron Saunders, are notably missing. The focus here is strictly on “The Life of a Showgirl,” after all.
