Open for over 20 years, Vulcania, located in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, ranks among the top 10 amusement parks in France with nearly 400,000 visitors annually. It is suitable for all ages.

What is Vulcania?

Vulcania is an amusement park situated in the volcanoes of the Chaîne des Puys, which opened to the public in 2002. Owned by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, its architecture is uniquely integrated into volcanic rock from Auvergne’s eruptions. Vulcania offers a fun and educational immersion into the world of volcanoes, natural phenomena, and Earth in Space. It features France’s largest planetarium under a 22-meter immersive dome (launched in 2023), dynamic rides including a family roller coaster, cinemas with giant screens (CinéMax, Europe’s largest screen, and the Astrodome), activities, and shows led by scientists.

What Attractions are at Vulcania?

Both adults and children experience thrills at Vulcania! The attractions provide a chance to learn and understand while enjoying oneself. In the “Sacred Volcanoes” ride, you board a vehicle that recounts the history of peoples living with volcanoes. Dynamic attractions like “Awakening of the Auvergne Giants,” “Dragon Ride,” and “Namazu,” a thrilling adventure through a seismic fault in an all-terrain vehicle (for visitors over 1.20m tall), ensure excitement.

Scientific workshops such as “Volcano Workshops” let you step into the shoes of a volcanologist, the Earthquake Expo helps you understand the mechanisms of earthquakes, their formation, measurement, and risk prevention, and “Earth Machine and Revealed Planet” uncover the secrets of the planet. Special Astronomical evenings are also available on select dates in July and August.

What’s New in 2026?

For the 2026 season, Vulcania is enhancing its array of immersive attractions with major new experiences:

• “Expedition Hawaii” (opening July 1, 2026): A family-friendly immersive adventure guided by volcanologist Lila. Following in the footsteps of famous French volcanologists Katia and Maurice Krafft, visitors explore the highly fluid lava and shield volcanoes of the Hawaiian archipelago through a five-step interactive journey with special effects.
• “Primordia, Birth of the World”: The new nighttime show of sound, light, and pyrotechnics available on several dates in August 2026.
• At the Planetarium: Two new temporary projections added to the lineup include “Asteroid” (shown in spring and autumn) and “Destination Moon: The Quest for Water” (starting September 2, 2026).
• Land of Volcanoes (a sensory exploration space) and the dynamic version of Angry Earth are now permanent fixtures in the park’s attraction catalog.

How Long Does it Take to Visit Vulcania?

To fully experience Vulcania, it’s recommended to plan for at least a full day, with an average visit lasting over 6 hours. If you wish to explore all activities, including the scientific workshops and shows, or if you prefer to take your time, consider spreading your visit over two days. During school holidays, it’s possible to purchase a second-day ticket onsite if you wish to return the following day.

When is Vulcania Open?

The park is open from March 25 to November 1, 2026, from 10 AM to 6 PM, except from July 6 to August 30, 2026, when it is open from 10 AM to 7 PM (and until 11 PM during special evening events). Note that the park is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays from September 1 to October 13, 2026.

What are Vulcania’s Admission Prices?

The individual admission prices (1-day dated ticket purchased onsite) for the 2026 season have increased and vary by time of year:

• Green Period (Low Season): €28.00 Adults; €23.00 Children (6-16 years); €7.50 Toddler (3-5 years)
• Blue Period (Holidays & Weekends): €31.50 Adults; €26.50 Children; €8.50 Toddler
• Yellow & Purple Period (Special Evening Events/Astronomiales): €33.00 Adults; €27.50 Children; €9.50 Toddler

To save money, purchasing “Smart Tickets” online in advance (at least 5 days before the visit) offers discounts (e.g., adult entry is €27.00 in the green period and €31.00 in the yellow period). The Freedom Ticket (undated) is available at a flat rate of €33.00 for adults, €27.50 for children, and €9.50 for toddlers.

Reduced rates apply to students, unemployed individuals, and people with disabilities (with proof). The park offers free admission for children under 3 years. Accepted payment methods onsite include credit cards, bank checks, cash, vacation checks, Cado checks, Culture checks, and Kadéos checks. Free parking is available with electric charging stations.
