No one has ever tried this type of ride before. A groundbreaking concept that combines storytelling, adrenaline, and technology, just a two-hour flight from Paris.

Amusement parks constantly evolve to entertain more effectively and draw in crowds: they expand, create new themes, thrill rides, open hotels, and always aim to go bigger. Some have even earned accolades for having the tallest roller coasters or the fastest drops. This time, an amusement park located a two and a half-hour flight from Paris is introducing an entirely unprecedented experience. It’s a global debut that significantly shifts the entertainment industry landscape.

The new attraction, named El Diablo Neo, can be experienced at PortAventura World in Spain, near Salou. It’s primarily a revamped version of the iconic “El Diablo” mine train, maintaining its adventurous spirit while incorporating innovations that will attract many visitors. On this roller coaster, riders are immediately immersed in a story inspired by ancient Mexican mythology, enhanced by cutting-edge technology.

This ride now features mixed reality. In other words, guests wear special glasses that transform the mine into a fantastical world. Every movement is synchronized; the ground shifts before your eyes, passengers try to touch the foliage, marvel at a giant eagle soaring overhead, and are startled by a snake that disrupts their journey.

“With the Adventure Labs team, we aim to redefine the future of entertainment. It’s not just about adding a virtual layer to one of our most iconic attractions, but forging a new path in technological innovation that will change how our visitors experience adventures with us,” stated Andreu Tobella, digital director at PortAventura World.

Another attraction, “Hysteria in Boothill,” located in PortAventura World’s Far West area, also offers a mixed reality experience. “It incorporates new types of scares, along with enhanced physical effects: vibrations, warm air, real vegetation, scents, and tactile interactions, taking visitor immersion to another level,” the park notes, celebrating its thirtieth anniversary this year.
