During an episode of the “In Depth With Graham Bensinger” podcast that aired on Wednesday, Devine recounted an unexpected phone call from Efron, who hadn’t reached out to him in years. “Zac calls me — it’s been a couple of years since we talked — and he just calls me out of nowhere,” Devine explained.
Devine, known for his role in “Pitch Perfect,” mentioned that Efron was on a private island when he made the call asking for a favor.
“He starts off by saying, ‘Hey man, I just want to let you know that I miss you.’ And I responded, ‘I miss you too, dude. You’re a great friend, yada, yada,’” Devine said, recounting the conversation.
The dialogue then shifted when Efron inquired whether Devine still owned his seaside property, to which the “Isn’t It Romantic” actor confirmed he did. “He asked, ‘Would it be cool if I came and crashed at your place for two weeks?’” Devine shared, adding that he agreed, telling Efron, “Uh, yeah, yeah, yeah, come stay with me.”
According to Devine, Efron promised to call the next day to arrange the details and confirmed plans to arrive early the following week.
After ending the call, Devine informed his wife, Chloe Bridges, about the potential visit. “I told Chloe, ‘Looks like Zac might be staying here for a couple of weeks. Not sure.’ And she was like, ‘OK, yeah, I guess that’s fine,’” he recounted.
However, the expected visit never materialized. Devine claimed that he never heard back from Efron. “He just ghosted me, dude. Never called back,” Devine stated. He even followed up with a text asking, “Are you still planning to stay here?” but received no response.
Devine disclosed that he hasn’t spoken to Efron since their last interaction.
“I have no idea what happened, dude, no clue,” Devine expressed, confused about the whole situation.
The actors had previously developed a friendship after co-starring in the 2016 film “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates.” Despite the incident, Efron’s representative was unavailable for comment when approached by Page Six.
