When you adopt a child, you may be eligible for financial assistance known as an adoption bonus. Learn about the amounts, limits in 2025, and how to apply for this benefit.
Families adopting a child under the age of 20 can receive the adoption bonus, a unique financial support paid within two months of the child’s arrival. This aid is intended to cover the costs associated with welcoming the new member into your home.
What are the requirements to receive the adoption bonus?
The adoption bonus is part of the Paje, similar to the birth bonus paid following childbirth. This financial aid is subject to income conditions and is for children under 20 years old. Additionally, parents must have previously used the services of child social assistance, a French authorized adoption agency, or a competent foreign authority to qualify.
What is the amount of the adoption bonus?
As of April 1, 2024, the adoption bonus will be ā¬2,132.63. In the case of multiple adoptions, the Caf will pay as many bonuses as there are adopted children.
What are the income limits for the adoption bonus in 2025?
The adoption bonus is granted based on the adopting parents’ income, which must not exceed certain limits. For 2025, the net categorical income for the year 2023 is considered. The number of dependent children is also a criterion. Here are the income limits effective until March 31, 2025:
Number of dependent child(ren) | Single-income couple | Dual-income couple and single parent |
1 child | 36,461 euros | 48,186 euros |
2 children | 43,753 euros | 55,478 euros |
3 children | 52,504 euros | 64,229 euros |
Each additional child | 8,751 euros | 8,751 euros |
What is the amount of the basic Paje allowance in the event of adoption?
The basic allowance of the Childcare Welcome Benefit (Paje) is also paid to adopting parents until the child’s twentieth birthday for a duration of three years. The amount of the basic allowance is 96.65 euros per month at a partial rate and 193.31 euros per month at a full rate. Note that the income limits are the same as those for the adoption bonus.
How do you apply for the adoption bonus?
The administrative procedures to benefit from the adoption bonus vary depending on whether the adopted child is French, European, or from outside Europe:
If you have just adopted a child born in France
You must provide the Caf with a certificate from the child social assistance services or another authorized body, specifying your name and the date the child was placed in your family. Parents who are not beneficiaries must complete form cerfa nĀ°11423*06, which corresponds to the declaration of situation, as well as the declaration of resources form, nĀ°10397*18.
If the adopted child is European
You must send a file to the Caf including a copy of your approval, a copy of the foreign decision, a photocopy of the child’s identity document, the document of the agreement to continue the procedure (APP) issued by the French authorities before the child’s arrival in France, and proof of the child’s arrival in your household. If you are not yet a Caf beneficiary, you must include forms cerfa nĀ°11423 and nĀ°10397 in the file.
If you are adopting a child from a country outside of Europe
You must send a file to the Caf with a copy of your approval, a copy of the foreign decision, and a photocopy of the child’s passport (or any other document proving their country of origin). If you are not a beneficiary, you must add the completed forms cerfa nĀ°11423 and nĀ°10397 to the file.
