Dylan Efron, the star of “Traitors,” is a big fan of fantasy audiobooks.

Efron describes himself as a “multitask listener,” enjoying audiobooks while engaging in daily activities like walking his dog, hitting the gym, or slacklining, which allows him to escape into fantastical realms.
His passion for fantasy is no secret, as he previously expressed his eagerness to join the cast of the upcoming “Fourth Wing” television series.
When asked about the role, he excitedly responded, “Oh, hell yeah! Sign me up.”
Below are six fantasy books Efron insists every enthusiast should check out.
“Red Rising” by Pierce Brown
“Imagine ‘The Hunger Games’ meets ‘Game of Thrones,’ but set in space. It’s about a lowborn rebel who battles to topple a harsh class system on Mars. While I was working on my screenplay and my debut novel—which I haven’t completed yet—a friend compared the first 100 pages to ‘Red Rising.’ Thinking it was an obscure series, I started reading and got hooked. I finished the book in less than a week and was so impressed I thought it should be a film. That’s when my friend informed me that it’s a popular series by a New York Times bestselling author. I’ve read and listened to the entire series—the narrator is one of my favorites, but reading the first book is crucial for keeping track of all the characters.”
“Fourth Wing” by Rebecca Yarros
“This series doesn’t need an introduction, but for the uninitiated, it’s like Hogwarts but with a life-or-death dragon training camp and some intense romance. After I finished ‘ACOTAR,’ I caught the romantasy bug, but I believe this series is a better starting point for anyone new to the genre.”
“Stormlight Archive” by Brandon Sanderson
“The ‘Stormlight Archive’ follows Kaladin, who evolves from a soldier to a slave and then a leader as he uncovers his latent powers in a world teetering on the brink of war. Sanderson’s ‘Mistborn’ series, on the other hand, features Vin, a street urchin with rare magical abilities who joins a rebellion against an immortal tyrant. If I had to choose, I’d recommend ‘Stormlight Archive’ for pure fantasy lovers. Sanderson is a titan in the fantasy realm, renowned for his intricate world-building and deep character development. His major downside? His books are lengthy. I suggest listening on Audible at 1.1 speed—you’re looking at roughly 100 hours of adventure, so buckle up.”
“First Law” Trilogy by Joe Abercrombie
“Joe Abercrombie’s ‘First Law’ trilogy is known for its gritty, dark humor and morally ambiguous characters. It’s a stark contrast to traditional heroic tales, offering a raw, unpredictable narrative. A great read, especially after Sanderson’s dense novels. The protagonist, Logen Ninefingers, is especially compelling—a feared warrior tormented by his past yet searching for redemption.”
“The Lies of Locke Lamora” by Scott Lynch
“Scott Lynch’s series features ‘The Lies of Locke Lamora,’ which dazzles with its smart heists, sharp dialogue, and a vividly detailed cityscape fraught with perilous politics and memorable characters. Locke, the cunning strategist, and Jean, the formidable enforcer, make an unforgettable pair, navigating through treacherous schemes.”
“Demon Copperhead” by Barbara Kingsolver
“Barbara Kingsolver’s ‘Demon Copperhead’ offers a modern spin on Charles Dickens’ ‘David Copperfield,’ set in rural Appalachia. Unlike the other recommendations, this isn’t a fantasy tale. It’s a poignant narrative that deftly explores human struggles with a blend of empathy and humor. Recommended by my girlfriend, it was a worthwhile detour from my usual genre.”
