Discover France’s Most Enchanting Christmas Market in a Stunning Village!

Update on :
Unique et d'un autre temps, ce marché de Noël se trouve dans l'un des plus beaux villages de France

It’s incredibly popular and each year, it draws thousands of visitors.

When one pictures a Christmas market, images of festive decorations, wooden chalets, culinary delights, the aroma of mulled wine and gingerbread, sometimes choirs, and a warm, family-friendly atmosphere immediately come to mind. This is quite a traditional view. But did you know there are also some truly unique Christmas markets? One such market is located in the heart of Alsace. And no, it’s not in Strasbourg, Colmar, or Kaysersberg. It’s situated in a village, one of the most visited in the northeast of France, and also listed among the most beautiful in the country.

What makes this market special and charming is its celebration of the medieval era. Why? Because the village hosting it is the capital of minstrels in Alsace and boasts a rich medieval heritage. Visiting this market is like stepping back into the Middle Ages with its array of period costumes, medieval music, and the presence of the Magi and their camels. The market features impressive shows with jugglers, fire breathers, and troubadours, as well as tempting treats like spit-roasted wild boar… The experience is enchanting for both young and old!

“One year, I went there with my 10-year-old granddaughter and my 4-year-old grandson, and it was a feast for their eyes. Yes, it does get crowded since it only operates over two weekends, but if you arrive early and book a restaurant well in advance, you can really make the most of it,” shared Jean. Indeed, the Ribeauvillé Christmas Market isn’t open throughout December. This year, it will be held on December 7-8 and 14-15, 2024.

If this has piqued your interest in visiting, rest assured that everything is organized to manage the influx of visitors. A shuttle service is available. There are also park-and-ride lots at the entrance of the village which charge a fee (8 euros per vehicle), but at least you’re guaranteed a spot and can easily make your way to the Christmas market.
