“We were around 16,” Thirlwall mentioned during her appearance on “The Louis Theroux Podcast” available on Spotify.
Thirlwall recounted the brief connection that happened soon after Styles, along with Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson, formed the pop sensation One Direction during the 2010 season of the British musical competition.
“And then, as soon as they started performing on the live shows, I stopped receiving messages from him,” she shared.
“I figured that was it. He had made it big,” she thought to herself.
Reconnection and Apologies
As Thirlwall gained her own fame with Little Mix alongside bandmates Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock in the subsequent season of “The X Factor,” Styles eventually apologized for his abrupt silence.
“I ran into him later… and he apologized for ignoring me,” she recalled.
Louis Theroux, the podcast host, bluntly described the situation saying, “He ghosted you.”
“Yes,” admitted Thirlwall, the “Angel of My Dreams” singer. “But I was so young; it really didn’t matter much to me at the time.”
Now 32, Thirlwall praised Styles, 30, for his “immense talent and charm” and expressed that there are no hard feelings towards the “As It Was” singer nowadays.
Styles has had a notable dating history, including relationships with former “X Factor” host Caroline Flack, Taylor Swift, Kendall Jenner, model Camille Rowe, and “Don’t Worry Darling” co-star and director Olivia Wilde, among other celebrities.
Most recently, Styles was reported to have ended a one-year relationship with actress Taylor Russell in May 2024, as confirmed by Page Six.
On her personal front, Thirlwall has had her own notable relationships, including with “Britain’s Got Talent” star Sam Craske and Jed Elliott, the bassist from the Struts. Currently, she is dating rapper and actor Jordan Stephens.
