A Disappointing Dinner Dilemma
A significant oversight in pricing left a bitter taste in the mouth of a New York media executive this Christmas, thanks to a high-end city restaurant’s pricing blunder.

This bizarre French customer habit is driving shop owners crazy
In what could only be described as a surprising act of pettiness, one of the city’s top dining spots made the baffling decision to argue over a few dollars during what was supposed to be a festive Christmas dinner. This left the executive and his family without a reservation for the holiday.
A Festive Booking Gone Wrong
Insiders reveal that the business executive had secured a reservation for four at Jean Georges, enticed by the temporary reduction in price of the restaurant’s tasting menu, which seemed to reflect a holiday spirit of generosity. Originally, in November, the restaurant’s website listed its six-course prix fixe meal, normally priced at $298, for $258 on December 25. Alternatively, the ten-course option was advertised at $318 instead of the usual $398.
However, the mood changed when the restaurant, which boasts two Michelin stars, contacted him on Wednesday to confirm the reservation. It was then he realized the prices had reverted to their standard rates.
The executive decided to cancel his reservation in frustration after the restaurant, praised by the Times for its smooth, high-quality service, refused to honor the initially advertised lower price. A staff member bluntly informed him that the advertised discount was a mistake and that the original prices would be charged.
Unyielding Response from the Restaurant
Upon contacting the restaurant, a staff member conveyed sympathy for the executive’s situation but maintained, “We do not honor any discounts to anyone.” When confronted with the possibility of false advertising, the reply was clear: “It’s not false advertising. It was a mistake.”
The executive expressed that it wasn’t about the money but rather the principle of the matter. They commented, “They promised festive cheer but delivered disappointment instead. Mistakes do happen, but the right thing to do would have been to honor the originally advertised rate instead of giving us the equivalent of a lump of coal!”
Christmas Plans Upended
Now, the executive finds himself in a real holiday bind, as every suitable venue in the city is booked for Christmas. It looks like they might end up at a simple diner, which, one would hope, might show more grace in honoring a small holiday discount.
