In a recent documentary titled “Billy Idol Should Be Dead,” which debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival, Idol discussed the revelation of fathering a child during his 1985 “Rebel Yell” tour.
Speaking to iNews, Idol responded to whether the news was surprising given his history of promiscuity. “Perhaps slightly, but as I thought more about it, it seemed likely,” he admitted.
He continued, “Back in the ’70s and ’80s, it was all about wild, anonymous encounters with countless people.”
The former Generation X frontman noted, “It’s common for many in the rock scene to have children from affairs outside their main relationships.”
Nevertheless, Idol believes there aren’t any more undisclosed children of his, asserting, “If there were others, we’d probably know by now.”
Idol learned about his daughter, Bonnie Blue Broad, discovering a half-sibling in New York through a 23AndMe DNA test. “We get along really well, and I love him. He’s a great guy,” Idol said of his son, Brant Broad, whom he only recently found out about.
While the identity of Brant’s mother remains a mystery, Idol had Bonnie with his ex, Linda Mathis, and is also father to Willem Broad, with ex-partner Perri Lister from Hot Gossip.
Idol, born William Michael Albert Broad, feels that he is now better prepared for fatherhood than in his younger days.
“I’ve reached a point where I’ve accomplished what I wanted, to my satisfaction. Now that I’m not battling addiction, I can truly be there for my children,” he shared. Idol has been sober since 2003, following a battle with alcohol, cocaine, and heroin, although he admits to occasionally smoking cannabis and drinking.
