Timothée Chalamet went the extra mile to get into character as Bob Dylan for his upcoming film “A Complete Unknown” by covertly purchasing a denim jacket once owned by the legendary 83-year-old musician.
Just this week, Chalamet, aged 29, posted a selfie on Instagram sporting a denim jacket adorned with a vibrant assortment of fabric patches, lace, and embroidered decals.
If this distinctive garment seems vaguely familiar, it’s likely because Dylan wore it in a key sequence of his 1987 film “Hearts of Fire.”
How did Chalamet come to possess such a unique piece? Not directly from Dylan himself. Instead, in January, Julien’s Auctions held a large-scale auction of Bob Dylan collectibles named “Celebrating Bob Dylan: The Aronowitz Archive & More.”
Lot #55, the decorated Levi’s jean jacket, was claimed by a then-anonymous bidder for $25,400 following a spirited auction battle, as reported by Vogue.
It has since been revealed that the award-winning actor—and possibly his girlfriend Kylie Jenner?—was the enigmatic purchaser of the iconic denim item, which he stylishly matched with a white graphic t-shirt and loose dark jeans in his Instagram post.
However, the celebrity has already shifted his focus to his next endeavor, as evidenced by a copy of “Dune: Messiah” seen on a ping-pong table in the background of the photograph.
Over the past year, Chalamet has enjoyed immersing himself in the persona of Bob Dylan to promote his movie, including his appearance at the SAG Awards last month.
At the event, he appeared in a sleek black leather blazer and a striking green shirt from Chrome Hearts.
His outfit was complemented by a diamond-studded bolo tie—actually a Cartier Libre Féline watch necklace—and black leather boots.
The actor’s stylist, Taylor McNeil, shared a photo of Dylan sporting a very similar ensemble around 2011, highlighting the thoughtful inspiration behind Chalamet’s bright green outfit.
Moreover, he fully embraced the role in December by donning a blonde wig, mimicking a Dylan appearance from the 2003 Sundance Film Festival.
