That’s more than six kisses per second, a feat that has been officially recognized by the Guinness World Records.

There are some truly astonishing world records out there, and this one definitely fits the bill. In February, a couple managed to share 195 kisses in just 30 seconds. That’s over six kisses every second, maintaining a relentless pace. This remarkable achievement has been officially certified by the Guinness World Records and included in their latest publication.

While it might sound amusing, this number actually represents an impressive feat of precision. The challenge requires incredible coordination, as the couple had to keep up a furious pace for 30 seconds straight without pausing or breaking the rhythm. The result: 195 verified kisses, setting a new world record and earning a spot in the famed record book. According to the Guinness World Records, no one has surpassed this achievement in the category yet.

After the record was certified, Renato Bayma Gaia and Naiara Roberta Ribeiro de Marins declared that this victory proved they were “the best couple in the world,” a quote proudly highlighted by the Guinness World Records. Both doctors, aged 32 and 33 respectively, they live in Brazil. On February 17th, in São José dos Campos, it was Renato who kissed his partner’s face 195 times in just half a minute.

Renato is no stranger to Guinness World Records challenges, already holding two individual titles. His first record is for the fastest time to stack and then topple ten books, achieved in 6.68 seconds. His second title is for the largest leg rotation by a man, with an angle of 210.66 degrees. It seems he has passed his passion for record-breaking to his wife, as the couple is already aiming for their next goal: to break the record for the most kisses in one minute. The current record to beat is 277 kisses in 60 seconds, held by Japanese couple Cherry Yoshitake and Kumiko Shiratori.

It’s worth noting that beyond the quirky aspect of this feat, kissing is a gesture that has been extensively studied by scientists. Researchers cited by the Cleveland Clinic have found that lip contact can promote the release of oxytocin, a hormone linked to bonding and social attachment, while also helping to reduce stress. Studies published in the Western Journal of Communication have shown that the frequency of kissing can be connected to greater relationship satisfaction in some people. However, experts emphasize that the quality of affectionate gestures often matters more than the quantity, so there’s no need to start timing your kisses.
