Women Seek to Explore Sexuality Freely, Say Society Holds Them Back

More and more women are claiming their sexual freedom and seeking personal fulfillment through their sexuality. According to a survey conducted by Wyylde from February 25 to 26, 2025, involving 820 of its female users, 34% are still exploring their sexual desire and identity, while 53% feel already free and fulfilled. These statistics are promising, yet they could be more positive if certain barriers weren’t impeding women’s progress. In fact, 24% believe there is still a long way to go in breaking the taboos surrounding female pleasure, and a staggering majority (80%) think that society does not fully support them in exploring their sexuality.

Female Sexuality Constrained by Norms and Taboos

Contradictory demands are still all too common. Even though social norms have evolved over recent years, they can still inhibit women from experimenting with behaviors they might want to try or fully embrace. However, daring to be oneself is challenging when societal judgment prevails, especially when parts of society refuse to accept that women should enjoy the same sexual freedom as men.

“Female sexuality remains a controlled subject. Women are expected to embrace their pleasure, but not too overtly. They need to be free, but not too free. Our findings show, however, that they are claiming this autonomy and seeking spaces where they can be themselves, without pressure or taboo”, responded Alice Laloux, Community Manager at Wyylde.
