EP REVIEW: Ward Thomas’ ‘A Shorter Story’ – Laura K
Ward Thomas have finally released their eagerly anticipated covers EP several weeks after one half of the sister duo, Lizzy, confirmed that the record was on its way. The collection titled ‘A Shorter Story’ sees the 23-year-old twin sisters put their own unique twist on tracks from Justin Timberlake, Damien Rice, Years and Years, Kings of Leon, and Crowded House.
During the 5-track EP, Ward Thomas prove that their sublime harmonies work well on any any song from any genre from any artist. The fact that they can take on a Kings Of Leon song and not only do it justice but make it completely their own is something really special. Their raw talent is so sublime and the way they make every song unique to their own style and even manage to make them sound better than the original is a testament to their outstanding vocal talents.
Catherine and Lizzy truly do have special voices and their vocal harmonies are once again showcased in a truly beautiful way on this EP which sees them cover some of their own favourite songs. The standout track on the EP is the girls’ divine version of Years and Years’ ‘Shine’. They truly make it their own and their voices blend perfectly on the soaring chorus.
The full ‘A Shorter Story’ tracklist is as follows:
A Blower’s Daughter – Damien Rice
What Goes Around Comes Around – Justin Timberlake
Shine – Years and Years
Walls – Kings of Leon
Better Be Home Soon – Crowded House
