Lainey Wilson Releases New EP “Redneck Hollywood”
Named by CMT as one of their “Next Women of Country for 2019”, Louisiana native Lainey Wilson is fast becoming the name on many country music fans’ lips on both sides of the Atlantic. We are fortunate that this talented writer and dynamic performer has visited us here in the UK three times already, and each time the buzz around her gets bigger. Lainey’s independently released, self-titled EP from April 2018 landed her a record deal with BBR Music Group/BMG and last Friday saw her first label release, the four track EP “Redneck Hollywood“, the title being drawn from the lyrics of the semi-autobiographical track “LA” . Produced by the incredibly in-demand Jay Joyce, Lainey co-wrote all the songs, and she says of the project “it gives a snapshot of my story and moments in my life that have led me to exactly where I am today”.
Like several of you reading this I’m sure you got to hear her perform the track “Dirty Looks” while she was here in the UK last week, a song that contains very clever word play as well as being incredibly catchy… “I fell in love with it immediately! Growing up in northeast Louisiana, the word ‘redneck’ was a way of life. It’s a word outsiders would use to describe us and a word we’d proudly call ourselves” Lainey explains. The track commends the redneck hard work ethic, however “uncool” the tasks may be ….she meets her man for a drink after he’s been toiling on a farm and before he has gone home to clean himself up, some people there judging them and giving “dirty looks” as they kiss. But she doesn’t care, in fact she relishes the feel of his rough hands and wants to be all over him “like the dirt on your shirt… dirty looks good on you” she tells him. It’s a really sensual write – in the coming weeks Lainey sets off on her first US radio tour and this will be the first song she has taken to country radio .
