INTERVIEW: Laura Oakes Talks New Single ‘Better In Blue Jeans’
This past Friday, fast-rising British country music singer/songwriter Laura Oakes shared her latest single ‘Better In Blue Jeans’.
The release comes just weeks before the Liverpool born artist sets out on her headlining solo tour of the UK – the run of dates kick-off on March 6th in Oxford.
Here we chat exclusively to Laura Oakes to discuss her brand new release, and upcoming tour:
How excited are you about getting your new single into the world?
I can’t describe the buzz you get from releasing new music!! It’s the best feeling, I’m so excited to release it
What would you say has been the main inspiration behind the lyrics of the track?
The idea started with the title – I had it written down for ages before I actually wrote the song. I started thinking about what that title actually meant and so the inspiration is simply don’t forget where you came from or the people that helped you get there in order to be successful.
What are you hoping fans take away from the story within the song?
I hope it’s an uplifting message and feeling they take away. To basically just be who you are without feeling the need to pretend to be somebody else. You’re just great as who you are naturally!
Can you tell us a little about the writing process for this release?
I remember my co-writer Danny (Cope) saying to me at the very start of the session – I think I’ve have this melody and feel that sounds like Katy Perry released a country song which I l loved and I had been waiting for the perfect melody and feel to use the title idea Better in Blue Jeans and just had a load of words scribbled down which we then kind of matched together almost like all the bits were there, we just had to work out how to put them together!
Can we expect to have an official music video for the single?
There will be a live studio video coming of this song in the next couple of weeks which I shot with Whole Hog Media!
The new release comes ahead of your forthcoming UK tour, how excited are you about hitting the road?
Ah I cannot wait! Playing live is one of the greatest things ever for me. Each night is different and this tour is especially exciting as it’s acoustic so the songs are front and centre in their truest form!
What can fans expect from your headlining sets each night?
Loads of new songs including all of the songs from my upcoming EP release, loads of stories about how they came into being, some singing along and loads of fun as well as some awesome opening acts! They’ll also be able to get my brand new EP at the shows before it comes out anywhere else.
Are there any cities in particular you’re most excited about performing in?
Liverpool is always special because it’s my hometown and Glasgow is always an absolute blast, but I’m looking forward to all of them massively!
