The network is actively working to move its ongoing legal dispute with former personality Leah McSweeney out of the public courtroom, according to Page Six. Bravo’s legal team is making efforts to prevent their internal documents from being exposed and to stop their executives from being questioned under oath.
McSweeney’s legal representatives argue that this effort is an attempt to conceal “damaging evidence” from becoming public.
Allegations Against Bravo and Andy Cohen
In 2024, McSweeney, who previously starred in “Real Housewives of New York City” and “Real Housewives: Ultimate Girls Trip,” filed a lawsuit alleging that producers, including Bravo celebrity Andy Cohen, encouraged her to drink alcohol on the shows to boost ratings. This occurred despite her battles with sobriety.
Furthermore, she accused Cohen of sexual harassment, alleging that he inappropriately questioned her about her breast augmentation during a broadcast and made offensive remarks in text messages. Cohen has denied these allegations.
According to her initial contract with “Real Housewives of New York,” disputes were to be settled privately. However, legal stipulations require that claims of sexual harassment be adjudicated in a public court, thus bringing the breast augmentation-related allegations to light in a legal setting.
Earlier this year, a judge dismissed these particular allegations from McSweeney’s lawsuit. Consequently, Bravo’s legal representatives argue that the remainder of the case should be resolved through private arbitration, as originally agreed in the contract.
Legal Maneuvering and Discovery Challenges
Bravo’s attorneys are urgently attempting to halt the discovery phase, during which McSweeney’s legal team could investigate private documents and depose executives. They are requesting that the court pause the discovery process until a decision is made regarding whether the case should proceed in private arbitration or in an open court.
McSweeney’s lawyer, Gary Adelman of Adelman Matz, commented to Page Six, saying, “It’s no shock that [Bravo, Cohen, and the producers] are attempting to delay the case by pushing for arbitration. They likely hope this strategy will prevent the harmful evidence we expect to emerge as the process continues.”
“We are pressing on with the lawsuit, demanding that the defendants release the evidence we seek. We believe the truth will prevail, irrespective of the setting, and the public has a right to know the details,” Adelman added.
As of now, representatives for Bravo have not responded to inquiries regarding the matter.
