This bizarre French customer habit is driving shop owners crazy
After an 11-year hiatus from the beauty scene, Agnès b. makes a striking comeback with two new fragrances, providing an opportunity to touch base with the designer.
She’s finally back. Over a decade since the permanent closure of the Club des Créateurs de Beauté, where Agnès b. once sold her cosmetics, the Parisian designer has surprised us with a fragrant return. Introducing two creations that epitomize Agnès Troublé: contemporary, edgy, and uncompromising. Let’s delve deeper.
Cast your mind back to 1987, when she unveiled her first iconic fragrance aptly named “Le b.” At that time, the scent was a massive hit, and the designer was eager to expand her range. This led to four additional fragrances, including one specifically created for children. Fast forward to the present, and the good news arrived in 2025: Agnès b. launched two new products. As usual, she opted for simplicity in naming them: Le Parfum and L’Eau. When asked about her return to these forgotten loves, her response was straightforward and genuine: “People asked me to.” This statement, if any were needed, underscores the significance of these initials in the beauty realm. “For me, it’s full of great memories,” she confirms. Initially available only in her brand’s boutiques and online, these perfumes are now for sale at Marionnaud stores.
Created in collaboration with perfumer Isaac Sinclair, the two scents revolve around the mock orange that Agnès Troublé grows in her garden. In Le Parfum, this radiant flower blends with saffron—a surprising and innovative twist from the designer. It also features tuberose absolute, musks, sandalwood, and ambergris. Meanwhile, L’Eau is lighter: mock orange mingles with peony, jasmine, magnolia, and musks. “It’s floral, but in a modern way, which is quite a feat, especially with white flowers. But we’ve achieved it,” Agnès b. shares. It took 69 attempts to perfect these fragrances, with a nod to destiny, the 68th formulation was chosen. This number is highly symbolic, reminding us of a significant era for the designer: May ’68.
But it’s not just the scents that have a unique story—the bottle comes with its own set of anecdotes. The bottle’s sides feature columns, a nod to her “Versailles side,” in Agnès b.’s own words. Initially, she wanted the bottle to be repurposed as a vase, a reflection of her love for giving objects a second life. “It was challenging due to the bottle’s design… Maybe next time!” The next time… We are already looking forward to it with anticipation!
