It’s often said that actions speak louder than words. However, in a romantic relationship, certain words can have a more profound impact than a candlelit dinner.

Turning an attachment into true love hinges significantly on the words you choose. Beyond merely conveying your feelings, words connect you to your partner and solidify the foundation of your relationship. “Words weave bonds between people,” explains Catherine Demangeot, a couples therapist and creator of the podcast “Follow Me If You Love Me!” They shape our identity, our relationships, and the way we love. They enable us to say: “I am here,” “I see you,” “I choose you.”

But beware, it’s not just about the words themselves. In communication, only 7% of the message is conveyed through the words, while 38% is through tone of voice and 55% through non-verbal language (gestures, posture, facial expressions). “Saying ‘I love you’ while shouting or sending an emoji are not the same,” the therapist reminds us. Thus, the power of a word lies in how it is expressed, when it is said, and most importantly, to whom it is addressed.

There is no universal magic phrase that will make a man fall madly in love. However, there are key words and emotional expressions that trigger something deep, provided they align with his emotional language. “If a man grew up in a family where love was expressed through acts of service, he will be more moved by ‘thank you for what you do for me’ than by ‘you are the man of my life,'” points out Catherine Demangeot. Therefore, for your words to carry weight, they must speak to him in a language he understands, one that reflects his background, upbringing, and sometimes his wounds. Words that will make a man fall in love include:

  • a man in search of recognition: Does he often doubt himself and feel valued when his efforts are acknowledged? Try “I’m proud of you,” “You handle that so well,” “You don’t realize how much I admire you,” “I feel safe when you’re around.”
  • a man sensitive to affection and emotions: Does he need to hear that he matters, that he is loved for who he is? Tell him: “I love you deeply,” “You are fundamentally good,” “Being with you is comforting,” “I feel like myself when I’m with you.”
  • a man who is very tactile or sensual: Does he perceive love through desire, touch, and physical connection? Dare to use sensual words: “You drive me crazy just by looking at me,” “I want you all the time,” “Your scent is my addiction,” “I love it when you touch me like that.”
  • a cerebral or reserved man: Is he not comfortable with raw emotion, but appreciates subtle signals? Try: “You fascinate me,” “I love when you explain things to me,” “I have great respect for you,” “You teach me so much.”
  • a loyal but discreet man: Does he show his love through actions, not words? Focus on his actions: “I see everything you do for me, and it moves me,” “Thank you for always being there, even in silence,” “You’re my rock,” “I feel lucky to be with you.”

The word that makes a man fall in love is the one that hits right, not because it’s perfect, but because it’s true. Find the words that are sincere for you and resonate with him. “What matters is not just what you say, but why you say it and how the other person will receive it. A word can be magical for someone, and have no effect on another,” concludes Catherine Demangeot.
