Shocking Reveal: Travis Kelce’s Role in Ryan Murphy’s FX Series Unveiled!

Update on :
‘Grotesquerie’: Who Is Travis Kelce’s Character In Ryan Murphy’s FX Series?

WARNING: SPOILERS! This article contains spoilers from FX’s Grotesquerie.

In the third episode of Ryan Murphy’s horror series, Grotesquerie, Travis Kelce made his much-anticipated first appearance. Despite a brief glimpse in the series trailer, little had been revealed about his role until this episode.

In the series, Kelce portrays Ed “Eddie” Laclan, a nurse attending to Marshall (Courtney B. Vance), the comatose husband of Lois Tyron (Niecy Nash-Betts), at the hospital.

The plot of Grotesquerie centers around Detective Tyron, played by Nash-Betts, as she delves into a string of chilling crimes within her community. These crimes start to feel unsettlingly personal, almost as if the criminal is directly challenging her. Along her journey, Detective Tyron encounters unexpected allies such as Eddie and a journalist-turned-nun, Sister Megan (Micaela Diamond).

Episode 3

Toward the end of episode three, Lois meets Eddie when she visits the hospital after one of her spiraling bouts, exacerbated by her struggles with alcoholism. Nurse Redd (Lesley Manville) is seen attending to a bedsore on Marshall, and she pressures Lois to assign her power of attorney over him, citing Lois’s inability to handle his care. Lois resists, but the confrontation leaves her shaken, prompting her to seek solace in the hospital’s outdoor atrium with her flask and a cigarette.

While searching for a lighter, Eddie appears and lights it for her. He advises her not to drive given her condition, which Lois initially ignores. However, they begin a flirtatious exchange: he nicknames her “Miss Sassypants” and she retorts with “Fast Eddie.”

Their interaction is short but suggestive of more to come. Soon after, Lois crashes her car while leaving the hospital and is readmitted—this time as a patient. While discussing her DUI charges with a colleague, Eddie enters with a food tray. Lois persuades Eddie to unlock her handcuffs from the hospital bed, which he reluctantly does, and eventually, he aids her in a daring escape from the hospital.

Episode 4

Lois encounters Eddie again outside the hospital after a visit to see her husband. The charges against her seem to have been dropped, but Nurse Redd continues her quest for power of attorney. Eddie is no longer in his nurse’s uniform, which Lois notices but doesn’t question.

After apologizing for her earlier behavior, Eddie dismisses it as human error. Lois offers to bake him a cake as a thank you, leading Eddie to suggest they spend more time together. “You mean like a date?” Lois queries. “Sure, we can call it that,” Eddie responds.

They leave the hospital together, and Eddie takes her to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. Following the meeting, they dine out, and Lois indulges in a dirty martini. Eddie urges her to moderate her drinking, recounting his own path to sobriety, which began with a skiing accident and led him through various life stages, including working as a sex worker in Juneau, Alaska, and ultimately living on the streets.

“Long story short, I was just missing my dignity. You know?” Eddie shares, prompting Lois to reflect. He drops her off at home afterward.

Episode 7

Eddie is largely absent from episodes five and six, except for a brief moment showing him and Merritt (Raven Goodwin), Lois’s daughter, enjoying a video together in Merritt’s room. This is the first sign that Merritt is warming to him, which makes it even more shocking when, at the start of episode seven, Merritt and Eddie announce over dinner with Lois that they are dating and plan to move in together.

Merritt expresses her desire for Eddie’s support as she embarks on a reality show called “Half-Ton Trauma.” Lois, heavily intoxicated, vehemently opposes and insinuates that Eddie and she had an affair, which is untrue.

The plot twists significantly here. It is revealed mid-episode that the scenarios viewers have been following are actually Lois’s coma-induced perceptions, not reality. In reality, Eddie is married to Merritt—at least for the moment. However, the dinner did happen, and it was so Merritt could inform her father, Marshall, that she and Eddie were divorcing after Eddie had an affair with Lois. Additionally, Eddie is not a nurse; he works at a Cinnabon stand in the mall.

When Marshall decides to take Lois off life support towards the episode’s end, Eddie insists on being present, creating tension. However, Merritt allows him to stay until Lois’s life ends. Contrary to expectations, Lois regains consciousness in the episode’s final moments, setting the stage for future confrontations with Eddie.
