When kids start yelling at home, finding some peace can be a real challenge. Thankfully, Super Nanny shares a fail-proof trick exclusively with us.
In many households, dealing with loud noises and shouting is a daily occurrence. Between children playing, TVs blaring in the background, sudden quarrels, and toddlers screaming for no clear reason, noise levels can skyrocket quickly. Many parents find themselves overwhelmed by the constant din. They repeat themselves, raise their voices, and get frustrated, but it seems to have no effect: their words just vanish in the general uproar. Living amidst such noise not only leads to frustration but also to mental exhaustion. So, how can you get heard when no one seems to be listening? How can you restore calm without having to shout louder than everyone else? Sylvie Jenaly, who has portrayed Super Nanny for a decade, has a proven technique.
In the upcoming episode marking the start of the 10th season of “Super Nanny,” which premieres April 9th on TF1, the expert heads to Arles in the south of France to assist Anne-Marie, 28, and Donovan, 25, a young couple overwhelmed by their four young daughters: Kyara, 9, Eylina, 5, Naelya, 2 and a half, and Adriya, 18 months. At home, quiet has become a rare commodity. The family lives in a constant hubbub: the kids yell or speak loudly without even realizing it. This noisy environment wears the parents out, leaving them unable to communicate effectively or establish a peaceful atmosphere.
Super Nanny noticed the issue as soon as she walked through the door. “It’s true that the decibel levels were quite incredible in that house, though we shouldn’t forget that this is the South: people tend to speak loudly there. The mom was very lively, so naturally, the kids were too,” she shared with us. To calm things down, Sylvie Jenaly introduced a fun exercise that the girls quickly embraced. “We tried speaking in whispers, to really listen to each other. Then, we worked on finding a more or less normal volume level, because there’s no need to shout to be understood. That was the exercise we practiced throughout the day,” she explained. And generally, this works with all children…
This technique involves what are known as “mirror neurons.” “When someone speaks softly to us, our mirror neurons get activated. They are the masters of imitation: they replicate what they see. So, if you speak softly, gently, calmly, you will most likely receive the same in return. But if you shout, the children will shout too,” emphasizes Super Nanny. According to the expert, it’s not that hard to implement!
