Stephanie Faracy, known for her role in “Scarpetta”, has a keen interest in reading about real-life figures.
“I’m drawn to biographies,” she explained to Page Six, expressing her fascination with “the journey of the soul through human experiences.”
The actress, who has also appeared in “Nobody Wants This” and “Hocus Pocus”, currently stars in “Scarpetta” with Nicole Kidman, Simon Baker, and Jamie Lee Curtis. The series, an Amazon Original, is adapted from Patricia Cornwell’s books and follows the crime-solving adventures of forensic pathologist Kay Scarpetta, a character inspired by the real-life Dr. Marcella Farinelli Fierro.
Below are six books that Faracy highly recommends.
“Postmortem” by Patricia Cornwell
“Back in the ’90s, the idea of a female leader was groundbreaking. There weren’t many, especially not as the chief medical examiner of Virginia. Kay Scarpetta was a pioneer, not just as a woman and a doctor, but as a professional and a moral human who believed that abuse of power is the root of all wickedness. Plus, she was a crackerjack crime solver.”
“Mike Nichols: A Life” by Mark Harris
“This biography was a joy to read. Every time a new question about Mike Nichols popped into my mind, the next chapter would answer it! It’s a beautifully crafted glimpse into an extraordinary life. Nichols and Elaine May shaped my early ideas of storytelling and humor in acting. Their wit made me think, ‘Is that possible? I want to do that too!’”
“Leonardo Da Vinci” by Walter Isaacson
“Isaacson’s narrative immerses you into a tangible past. It’s thrilling to think, ‘Leonardo walked these same streets!’ It bridges the gap between a historical figure and a living, breathing person. His insatiable curiosity and relentless exploration of all conceivable subjects are profoundly inspiring.”
“First: Sandra Day O’Connor” by Evan Thomas
“I was unexpectedly moved by this book. Thomas weaves crucial facts into an engaging narrative about Sandra Day O’Connor’s life, from her early days on the Lazy B Ranch to her groundbreaking role as the first female Supreme Court Justice. Her dedication to building consensus was so strong, she’d bring casseroles to the court to encourage sharing ideas over meals. Her courage and conviction are truly admirable.”
“Loyalty to Your Soul” by H. Ronald Hulnick, Ph.D. & Mary Hulnick, Ph.D.
“This book offers a fresh perspective on viewing your life through a broader lens. The Hulnicks have taught me how to be a better person by embracing my spiritual identity. Anytime I open this book, I reconnect with my true essence.”
“Anam Cara” by John O’Donohue
“Anam means soul and cara means friend in Gaelic. This book enlightens us to see each other as soul friends, fostering a sense of recognition and belonging that transcends ordinary friendship.”
